HD Box from Comcast

I sat in my home office yesterday waiting for Comcast to come out and replace my 10 year old cable box with a new HD DVR box.  My remote on the old box had a MediaOne logo on Product_dch3416_settopit (before Comcast and AT&T Broadband).  The new box is also a Motorola.  A DCH 3416.  But, wow.  It’s so much nicer than the old box.  HDMI out.  Optical out.  Ethernet, firewire, USB.  And picture quality is great.  I have the box mated to my Vizio 32″ 1080i/720p (see my earlier post on my 2 Vizio TVs.)  With the move to HDMI from the box to the TV and optical from the box to the stereo, HDMI from the DVD player to the TV and optical from the DVD player to the stereo, I’ve reduced the clutter inside my cabinet tremendously.

Now the next part.  I’ve got to figure out how to get recorded files extracted from the device.  With the Tivo, you could either hack it or buy legitimate software to extract, play and burn videos.  I went the legal route.  This time……..I’ll probably do the right thing!
